A friend sent this my way. I have no need for another BBb tuba. It ends at noon central time on Friday, September 11th.

Ohh... that one of the super early Model 20s that don't say Getzen and have a Kranz. I absolutely love mine. Someone is going to be really happy with this one.

The winning bid was at $1,180. Someone got a good solid tuba for a good deal.
My first college had an old 1960s M-W 20 BBb very similar to this one. Those were made back when Meinl-Weston still put a kranz on their tuba bells, had the diagonal scribe across the front of the bell, had S-linkage etc.
It was said that Bill Bell played on that tuba when he visited that college back in the day. But who knows. It was one of several tubas I played when I was there. Good tubas.

My university also had two of these from when Rex Conner was there. Big rotary BBbs with kranzes. They were pretty beat up and neglected, unfortunately, but they seemed like they had a lot of potential. Marked "W. Meinl-Weston" on the bell.
I was last there in 2023 to borrow a horn when I was in town, and I got to go to the instrument cage. I saw these tubas were still there, neglected, along with a Meinl-Weston 46 tuba that everybody called "The Flowerpot" because it was in such bad shape. The sixth valve lever had snapped off and was tied in the open position, so it was essentially a Meinl-Weston 45 five-valver. I always dreamed about buying it and fixing it up. Maybe some day, if they don't dumpster it.

There was also a York double-belled euphonium on the auction. It went for $415.
