I recently replaced the cheapo bridge on my 4 string project bass with a Fender hi-mass bridge, and it made a huge difference. I think it was the quality and adjustability as much as the weight. I clicked on this ad thinking it might be something similar for a bass guitar or even an upright. I am not sure what this is?

Here's mine with the upgraded bridge (along with upgraded pickups, pots, and strings - maybe upgrade the tuners someday?

It supposedly helps transfer vibrations between different parts of the instrument that are not soldered or brazed together. Some people swear by them, some people think they're snake oil. Either way, it's a lot of money for a piece of metal.
