UK train travel with tuba

Post by akv »

I need to get from Devon to Yorkshire with my tubiod. I note a BBb bass in a hard(ish) case comfortably exceeds the specified size, and although I've never seen anyone thrown off for oversize bags (or guitars), I once saw a 'cellist unable to get on. I don't want to get stuck halfway so I'd welcome thoughts from anyone with *direct, recent* experience of relevance.
Thanks.
(Should have stuck with the cornet!)

You can usually book a spot as you would for a bike, in the carriage at the back.

I've done Preston--London several times with a BBb. Best bet is to ask the conductor/train manager and see what they say, but I've always been ok.
