Up for your consideration is a Rudy Meinl 5/4 CC tuba.

I have not owned this instrument for very long, but an opportunity has come up to purchase a horn I have wanted for quite some time, so I am reluctantly listing this one for sale.

This tuba was previously owned by the United States Air Force Band stationed in San Antonio and appears to be in raw brass. From my understanding, it was not played extensively and spent a significant amount of time in storage. After speaking with several owners familiar with this model, it appears this instrument is likely from the late 1990s to early 2000s, around the period when Rudy Meinl began incorporating CAD design improvements into these tubas.

The bell has never sustained damage, and the instrument is in very good overall condition. There are a few small dings in the bottom bow area, which are visible in the photos. A small dent in the side of the bottom bow area.

I have only played a handful of these instruments, but this one is easily among the best I have tried. The intonation is very solid, the response is excellent, and it does not feel like an “air hog,” as some of these can be. The horn plays very openly, and most pitch tendencies are easily managed with the factory second-valve slide kicker. The receiver is stock, but it is not oversized, and American-shank mouthpieces work very well.

The tuba will come with a gig bag.

I am not willing to ship at this time, but I am willing to meet within a reasonable distance to accommodate serious buyers.

Open to trades for 5/4, 6/4 instruments. PT6, York Copies etc.
Location: Houston, Texas
Price: $9.5k OBO

I owned a very good one of those. I sold it to someone who liked it more than I did. It still had all of the original lacquer, even though several decades old.. so no sanding or buffing.
I took a picture of it one time out on my deck. I wonder if Klaus snatched that picture up for his collection.
Of all the six quarter C instruments that I owned over the years, it was the easiest to play in tune.
