A friend of mine was given a large bore F-attachment Yamaha trombone and a large bore F-attachment Benge trombone by a high school band director (neither of them needs any repairs) as well as a couple of other trombones which are in pretty good shape - because they are not silver plated.

School owned silver plated brass instruments look good for about 2 weeks.
