The Beatles recording of "Hey Jude" - undoubtedly - has been heard by billions of people, and - being so singable and listenable - I'm sure that this A side was worn out on most of those originally-purchased 45 rpm records, whereas the B side grooves (Revolution) remained in much less worn condition,

yet I believe I enjoy Lennon's lyrics to "Revolution" more than those to Hey Jude - and even more than I enjoy the feel/sound/harmonies/distortion - all of which are amazing. Lennon - in his late 20's, morphing into a more mature and thoughtful man, getting a grasp of what America is supposed to be all about, and witnessing the same type of (un)thinking then that people are buying into today - crafted an amazing commentary.

Well......at least there is some rhyming in it.

I guess I'm stuck in Time.

DSotM was one of my favorite albums when I was a teenager. Coming back to it as a mid-30s person, the lyrics of “Time” are a little too apt:

Tired of lying in the sunshine, staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long, and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

I spent most of my 20s going deep down the paths of a playing career and an academic career that I ultimately abandoned, and sometimes it feels like my life (my current, real, “adult” life, with a wife, house, kid, and real job) didn’t begin until I was 30 or so. No time like the present, and I am not wasting any time fretting about the past decade, but yeah, those lyrics hit home.

I asked my wife, who collects Beatles 45s with picture sleeves, and she said Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane.

My grandmother unwittingly gave me as a 10 year old the wildest A/B side 45 without even knowing it. She bought it for the “Unicorn song by the Irish Rovers”

This was the A side. The B side was “Another one bites the dust” by Queen. I wore the hell out of the B side. She had no idea it was on there.

I would love to know who made the decision and thought it was a good idea to pair those 2 groups on a 45. I still have it. I should hook up my turntable, find the 45 adapter and play it.

My mother had a small collection; of 45s we listened to when I was very young.

She had the Harry Belafonte hit Day-O on one side and Star-O on the other.

They sure could write em back in the day!

Ok, for Beatles I would go with “Rain” on the B side of “Paperback Writer.”

I would still put that behind Neil Young’s “Sugar Mountain,” on the B side of “Loner,” and the Velvet Underground’s “Here She Comes Now,” on the B side of “White Light/White Heat.” Obviously, I lack @bloke’s refined taste.

That is an inspired pairing.
