...and (please do not mistake for simplifying nor under/over-interpreting the gist of Donn's post, and also not to self-promote...but only to offer an example of "quite ornate, YET not flowers") but ornate engraving does not necessarily have to be something which would tend to be labeled as "feminine".

I'm not quite sure how to take that first statement.
Hopefully as a compliment as that was my intent. Just happy to see discussions that go deeper into topics.

It's not that I don't "enjoy" lacquer vs silver rehash number 2,367. But a more nuanced conversation of the evolution of esthetics and manufacturing and how those interact with culture and politics is much more interesting!
