The two brothers, Frank and Fred Assunto (the older trombonist was their father)... Our subscriber friend here is the daughter of the brothers' sister.
I was told by him that the Dukes of Dixieland opened for Jimmy Dean in Vegas, and they were very close to Mr Dean. (Yes, Jimmy Dean is the same person whose name appears on the country sausage that you see for sale in your grocery stores.) The daughter was wanting to marry someone, and the family voted on whether she should receive their blessing to do so. Reportedly, some of the family members were a bit suspicious of the suitor. The vote was tied, and Jimmy Dean was one of the voters. Mr Dean voted in favor of the suitor, and they married. Had Mr Dean not voted in the positive, my friend (our subscriber friend, here) would not exist.
