i got a larger bore leadpipe from mike johnson: https://m-j-c.co.uk/page-7/

and had my super amazing repair tech put it onto my gorgeous old frosted silver 4 valve New Standard BBb with a 17 inch bell.

and now it plays heaps better! (or maybe i have improved spectacularly)

still nice and clear, slots well, intonation spot on, not woofy, and feels like it's better down low and easier to blow.

highly recommend!

i am really excited and happy about it and thought you would all want to know...

This link is another thread about Mike Johnson leadpipes. It also has very positive reviews, including from me.

Mike Johnson is an incredible fabricator.
I clicked "thank" on your post. 🙂
I'm perfectly happy with the OEM mouth pipe on mine.
(Admittedly, I rarely play it... It's when I need heavy artillery at an outdoor venue with no acoustical help in any way... no roof, no overhang, no shell, no nothing. Mine has both the 17-inch upright, and the 24-inch recording bells. All that said, I like it fine. I'm even more happy that you like what was done to yours - as surely you use yours far more often. ❤️👍)

Interesting indeed!

My JP 377 doesn’t like either of my Denis Wick 3 or 3L
