Selling stuff on reverb?

Post by Grumpikins »

I have a few miscellaneous things I need to sell. I have bought a few things through reverb but never sold. Those of you who have sold there, can you tell me about how it has been. Is it worthwhile, or a big hassle? What about shipping? I have heard that reverb automatically charges a shipping rate to the seller. Is that true? Thanks so much for your info.

Very easy. You can have reverb handle the shipping if you know the size and weight of your box or you can specify other methods. I’ve found it to be better than eBay and the cut they take is not insane. I like using reverb other than the fact that site traffic for tubas isn’t as high as Facebook marketplace or eBay.

It's not hard at all, but I will echo that it has less tuba traffic than Facebook marketplace. Reverb can handle the shipping for you if you know the size of your shipping container.

Thank you. If I was selling tuba stuff, I would post it here. My son and I have some drum stuff and other things to move along.

I just purchased a nice tuba via Reverb.

I paid online with a debit card.

First, I had to put it in the cart to find out the total price, then call my bank to have them allow a purchase over the daily limit of my card for that amount. Since I was on the road, I asked the daily limit to include what I would need for gas, food, hotel, etc., to get me home. The buyer specified local pickup only, so Reverb only charged the applicable sales tax. They have an internal messaging system that allowed us to set everything up.

We met, and he handed me the horn. I had to tell the app that I had received the item and was happy with it. I think that was when he got his money. I do not know what sort of fees they deducted from his money. After I got home, the app wanted me to leave a rating and review of the item, seller, and transaction, sort of like eBay Feedback.

Painless.

Reverb charges *sellers a flat rate to post the ad ($7.50?) and then 3%ish as their cut.

oops, meant sellers, not buyers

Holy crap! I hadn't sold there on a year or so (maybe 18 months)

I bought and sold a tuba stand on there, and a sax and a trombone. Its a little slow moving but generally a good experience. There are extra little hidden fees in that they have a reverb fee they advertise AND then there is another payment processing fee. But all-in-all its been a good platform. I sold an amp on there too. Moved much faster obviously because it was guitar gear.

Reverb's current fee page is the place to check before listing, since the selling and payment processing fees are deducted from the sale price and have changed over the years. On shipping, the seller sets the price in the listing, either a flat rate or a calculated rate, and can buy a label through Reverb. The usual trap is underestimating the box: for anything large, weigh and measure the packed item before setting the price. Clear photos of every flaw and a short description of condition reduce returns and disputes far more than a low asking price.
