Some of you all are friends with him there, apparently, and might see if he's posted anything lately.

This in particular sounds like AI hallucinating:
A traditional newspaper obituary for Dr. Frederick J. Young was not widely circulated or digitally preserved at the time of his passing in March 2021. This is relatively common for retired academics who maintained a private family life in their later years.
He'd be 95, but it's not unreasonable to think he might still be alive.
His Faculty page at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford is still active, as is his LinkedIn page so I'm hopeful that maybe he's still out there and doing ok, albeit just not with much of an online presence lately.

^ I couldn't find anything about him from Univ of PA, Bradford. Just that he listed himself as the bass/tuba teacher there. But on their actual website I couldn't find it :smilie5:
His last posts on his LinkedIn page were from 6 years ago...

I also believe this is very suspect.
His wife Beverly passed away in 2022 and Fred was apparently very much alive at the time so the 2021 date doesn't work. In addition to other instruments she was quite accomplished on the French horn.

As a youth many years ago I went to their house and played brass arrangements with them and two of their sons (one was in my grade in high school). I also played in several groups with Fred. He is an interesting fellow. I sure wish I knew then what I know now and picked his brain some more back then.
