Play-test an Adams Euph

Post by harrell »

My son is in the market for a euphonium. He wants to try out an Adams(any model.) They are, of course, next to impossible to find right now. Does anyone know of a way to play-test one anywhere in the Southeast? Any ideas? I am in Mississippi.

Thanks.

Looks like they have them at Austin Custom Brass (which I always have to remind myself is in Kansas City, MO and not Austin, TX)...

Depending on what part of MS you're in, that's about a 10 hour drive, so maybe you and your son can make a weekend trip out of it.

"Adams any model" sounds a whole lot like "Fender any model" or "Harley-Davidson any model".
How old is he, how well does he play - compared to professionals, how wealthy are you, and how in love is he with "a top-touted brand name on the internet" vs. "playing the euphonium"?

I do NOT want you to respond to these questions to me - not at all, but I'd like you to think about these questions on your own.

Just so I don't completely ignore your actual question (with apologies, because that's what we tend to do here), here's some information for you:
If you come across a Swiss made Hirsbrunner compensating euphonium in good condition, the Adams "regular everything" (I'm fairly sure but not completely sure) is the same thing. Adams bought the Hirsbrunner tooling.
