This TOTALLY reminds me of when @bloke reads two lines of a post, assumes what the rest of it says, and TOTALLY responds in some embarrassingly non sequitur way.
DUDE...I do NOT believe you have it...

Sorry and yes, but it's the wrong damn chord.
That (the correct one) is a super cool chord - and I'm not sure anyone has ever been able to wig out exactly what it is, but that sure ain't it.

Re: DUDE...I do NOT believe you have it...
EVERYONE OF YOU IS OUT TO LUNCH. NONE OF THESE ARE IT.
Look up the Randy Bachman video where he explains it. With Giles Martin, son of George Martin, he got to sit down with the digitized master tapes and isolate what each person is playing, starting with Paul's 7th fret D note on the G string, and so on through the rest of the parts, including George Martin playing one part on piano. Everyone is playing a different chord on a different instrument, and all of them simultaneously clash and blend for the signature chord. It is complex. I am not going to go through the details here. You can research them yourself. It is not the G7sus that most people believe, although that does make a reasonable rendition when playing the song live without multiple guitar players.
Some years ago, my party band wanted to play the song. I told them in no uncertain terms that it had to be as I directed. So one by one, with three guitar players and me playing bass, I assigned parts as Randy Bachman described track-by-track on the master tapes. When I made sure everyone had their parts fretted correctly, I counted it off, and we played the chord. Everyone stopped and was amazed. To me, it was simple research from a person who actually sat down with the master tapes, or the digital version of them.
So, to say again, you are all out to lunch. None of you have a clue. Go find the Randy Bachman narrative from sitting with Giles Martin, listening to the master track-by-track.

Re: DUDE...I do NOT believe you have it...
I was just sort of amazed that this guy's ears wouldn't tell him that he was totally wrong, YET he went off and all these ultra-specific different directions - telling us exactly what it is (which it is not).
It reminded me of some of these cult religions where they want to tell us exactly how things are, whereby almost nothing is as they specifically claim.
The real chord: it's such an amazing sound.

Audio only:
George plays F9/G on the 12 string
John plays Dsus4
Paul plays D
The guy in the video bloke linked above almost gets the gist of it but obviously his voicing is way off.

Now, scroll to the end of Hard Day's Night. George, on the 12-string Rickenbacker, is playing the same opening F chord, alternating with the G note, arpeggiated, for the fade out.arpthark wrote: Mon Sep 21, 2026 11:42 am Audio only:
