A few summers ago I was playing euphonium next to a woman who was rocking a 5-valve Bb tenor tuba. It sounded amazing (though she would have sounded good on lesser instruments too). If I remember correctly it was a restored old Miraphone of some sort, but maybe not... Anyway, I'm increasingly intrigued by such instruments now that I'm playing 5-valve tubas.

That would look really intimidating in a Euphonium section in a wind band.

Bydlo would be easier than with my PT-15!

I asked a bandmate who used to own the instrument, and apparently it is an early 70s Miraphone, silver-plated but otherwise similar to the current model 565 B♭ Kaiser Baritone. The German "baritone" is closer to a euphonium than an American or British baritone; this "Kaiser" model seems pretty close to a compensating euphonium size-wise. My vague recollection of the sound was that it was a bit brighter, but a very full sound.

Here’s a link to a short demo of the Tenor Tuba by someone visiting the Brass Ark.
