CACHE OF OG ULTIMATE STANDARD SHANK FOUND

Post by bloke »

BOTH
- ONE PIECE SILVER PLATED COMPLETE MOUTHPIECES
- THREADED, FOR YOUR CHOICE OF STAINLESS STEEL RIM

I've been doing nothing but repairs and a few gigs and resting (when I'm posting here, I'm resting) and I totally forgot that I had some of these still in stock for those of you who may have asked and I said that I was temporarily out or something like that.

I started cleaning up my man cave (uncovering these) because we're going to have two waves of out of town guests, and the man cave always ends up being a secondary "great room" when the house is flooded with people.

(Brett says he only buys stuff made in America and Europe (THE EXCEPTION BEING THE COUNTRY WHICH DESTROYED THE PACIFIC FLEET), and only plays on silver plated brass mouthpieces, but guess what? He hasn't bought one. )

Brett: "yeah, but are they worth a damn?"

Joe, I don't believe I've ever questioned these...? (At least, I sure hope I didn't)

I owned one of your (stainless!) mouthpieces before... I think it was a Symphony model. it was probably around 2012(?) when I had the Miraphone 188. It worked really well on that tuba! And from about 2005 to 2011, I used a GW Baer (stainless) mouthpiece in my 1291, Marzan, etc. After all of that... I realized that I just didn't like stainless all that much.

Since 2017, my preferred mouthpiece has been the Thein RCC, and occasionally I'll use my old Bach 18 Megatone.

I wouldn't mind trying one of these OG Ultimates, but to be honest, I really don't play often enough right now to want to deal with learning a new mouthpiece. Also, I'd need a Euro shank...

To be honest - you’ve got so many variants now I can’t remember what’s what anymore. Is this the one you originally designed for your Cimbasso?

I personally use this mouthpiece with my really large tuba.
It's not that dissimilar on the inside to my really popular Symphony model but it's not quite as pretty sounding, and offers more definition and clarity to the sound of really large tubas.

@bloke what are the dimensions of this model? I might be interested in the 1-piece silver plated variety.

The rim is almost my #2 narrow profile rim (the particular one with a 32.9mm cup opening) which doesn't have a particularly hard inside edge but neither is a particularly rounded. The outside of the rim falls away from the player's face, even though it's a narrow rim. It's actually barely narrower on this one-piece model than the rim that you would order from me threaded.

The cup is about helleberg-120 deep, but is not the same cup shape, and the throat diameter is slightly smaller than with a typical mouthpiece. You see a lot of 8.2 mm throats on mouthpieces and this one's a little smaller.

If you've seen my Symphony cup - which is basically a funnel interrupted by a round shape about halfway down, this is similar but the round interruption is much less pronounced in comparison to the Symphony cup. 175 bucks. I recommend Priority Mail. Over to Birmingham it might only be 10 bucks but I don't know exactly until I type it in.

Thank you. I was hoping it would have been 33.5mm. It seems like I've settled into that dimension lately.

I have some rims that big - or did have some - that screw on to the threaded version. I've moved down from 33.2 about 3/10 of an mm smaller, myself... except for the recording bell E-flat, which I try to make sound like a big B flat.

I dunno what rim PROFILE(s) appeal to you, but I have a couple of 33.5 threaded steel rims (which screw onto the threaded version of the OG Ultimate) with the HLB2 rim profile (similar to the HELLEBERG 2 rim profile).

Thank you for letting me know. Maybe this is the wrong place to ask but how much does a complete screw rim mouthpiece setup cost? Unfortunately, I may be needing to re-route funds to a new mobile phone, as much has been on the fritz. :gaah:

I cut the price of the threaded "underparts" from $175 (complete one-piece mouthpiece price) to $150 (even though the machine shop charges me the same to make those as the complete mouthpieces)... This is to help customers out with the expense of purchasing a rim.
Rims (regular uncoated stainless steel - with no fancy gold-plating-resembling titanium coating) are 80 bucks... so when someone purchases the $150 silver plated brass underpart thing (which is threaded for rims), and an $80 rim I guess the total comes to $230. I've gotten to where I don't trust the cheapest mail, and use Priority. I believe it ranges from roughly $9 to $13, depending on how far away someone is

Remind us, what's the difference between the OG Ultimate and the normal three-piece OG?

Is the rim on the one-piece a little bit different than your standard #2?

I've been going back and forth between the three-piece OG and the OGU on my 5/4 Rudi.

Besides the outside of diameter of the rim base being thinned down a little bit narrower than the #2 profile 32.9 screw on rim, the throat is more like the prototype of this mouthpiece, whereby it didn't need to be compromised for the threading between the cup and the shank to match up - nor be compatible with the Symphony cup and shank parts.
