YFB to YEB?

Post by Kctuba »

OK, I know on the old forum. This had been discussed once or twice a long time ago. I have played a couple other five valve non-compensating F tubers that have had extended tuning slides added to them. One being the B and S PT 10, and the other a YFB822. The PT was OK, but I thought the 822 was really a fairly decent playing instrument. Size wise, the 621 is really what intrigues me. For the gurus out there, is there anything inherent in the transfer over that would just make this a horrible decision?

Those C to B-flat slides that Miraphone used to make for the 186 tubas back 60 years ago weren't so hot... I don't know if this has anything to do with the success of that about which you are inquiring.

I was lucky I think with that method. I had an Alex 163 and played a PT 10 P that both were ‘really good’. Not great, but pretty good. The 163 actually in a weird way was almost a better Bb than CC….

I have one of those in the 186''s trunk. I have no desire to try to make it a BBb.

The 163 I had was solid nickel. The horn played really well with both tuning slides.
