bloke oldies band update

Post by bloke »

These links were sent to me today, which means he's going to write out charts for them - as well as enhancement tracks.

It's always fun to add songs to a band's repertoire. :smilie8:

I was just a little bit surprised to see Spinning Wheel, as the band leader is a devout Southern Baptist and even does missionary work out of the country...
...but then it occurred to me that the song doesn't advocate for that lifestyle. Actually, it judges it very harshly. 😐

I'm glad I'm back into playing bass guitar. 🙂
It's more fun than I remembered, particularly now that I'm not doing it five nights a week one place and - right after that - seven nights a week at another place (while also doing a 43-hour a weekday job, plus symphony jobs church jobs, quintet jobs and recording dates... as was the case back in 1980)

Hey... I just finished up this job, and I have another one next Sunday about a mile down the road. Like I said in another thread, I played the F tuba on the entire gig, and it was fun and easy (having not played the F tuba on any gigs and at least one or two years...ideal instrument: the range (combination of all the charts) was from C below the staff to E-flat above the staff).👍

The only sort of tricky thing (at this church playing these gigs) is an aural issue:
The trumpets and the timpani are on the other side of the organ console (as seen) with the rest of us are parked over here.

The band that I was the only tuba in just did Saturday in the Park. Fun piece.

I was tickled to see a BS&T tune added to the rep. Lots of people play Chicago tunes, but fewer bands cover BS&T tunes.

Is there a trumpet player in the group that can play that solo? Lew Soloff played some wicked high parts on that.
As amateur as they come...I know just enough to be dangerous.

Meinl-Weston 20
Holton Medium Eb 3+1
Holton Collegiate Sousas in Eb and BBb
Conn 20J
and whole bunch of other "Stuff"
