Probably a dumb question, is the RT-88 the exact same as Pt-88? Was there anything changed when the split happened?

I believe that when Bob stopped doing the "PT" lineup, there were still some being made and labeled as PT that we no longer under his guidance, and could not be guaranteed as being the exact specs and quality you've come to.expect.

If it's a new mouthpiece, go with the RT. It's guaranteed to be the same as the old PT that you trust.

I used a (real) PT-88 with my old VMI CC tuba. Nice big low range, which is sort of the entire point of that mouthpiece. :tuba:

Bob owns the trademark for "Perantucci" and "PT" for Europe/Asia and continues to manufacture and market mouthpieces for them. Mouthpiece models sold in the US wear the "Robert Tucci RT-##" markings. They are the very same mouthpieces, produced at the same time, just marked according to the market for which they are destined.

Current brand and model markings are contained within the two bands located just below the rim. "Legacy" models, which were produced by other manufacturers, have their model numbers stamped on the bowl's exterior.

I'm thinking the old PT mouthpieces were made by Tilz. Am I misremembering? And do you know what manufacturer produces the current RT/PT line?

Bob would obviously the best arbiter of that info but I would agree that my PT models have what appear to be Tilz-style markings. My early Rudolf Meinl RM-10 was made by Tilz but a later version by Josef Klier.

My band director bought me a pt88 back in the day because the helleberg everyone was using was apparently too small for me or maybe the throat was too small as I played too loudly more often than not. And I remember liking it a lot but I think its probably kinda big for the VMI I bought now. I use the Baer MMVI, it's been my favorite do it all mouthpiece for awhile now. But I've always wondered if there was anything that changed when it became RT instead of PT. And also when The Mr P lineup came out, Dan himself actually gave me a MRP-64 back when I saw him at TMEA years back. I would love it if they had stainless steel versions.
