New Mouthpiece Adventure

Post by Tim Jackson »

On a whim and maybe a little tuba boredom, I decided to pick up the Giddings Jon Sass mouthpiece off eBay the other day.
Also, I couldn’t resist the description. (listed below) Not sure who wrote this, but what other mouthpiece can do all this?
Besides the boastful and over-the-top description, I just received it and like it very much. A medium (sort of shallow & on the small side) cup and a reasonably large throat do offer some nice playing qualities. Seems like a very nice fit for my 184. It does make a noticeable positive difference, and it will be my go-to for the next few weeks. I do seem to gravitate toward the well-engineered boutique mouthpieces, and this one does not disappoint.
Maybe it’s the dragon’s breath or the lightweight design, but this is one “firecracker” of a mouthpiece on our great 4th of July celebration day!

Ivan used to be up here in WA. But I'm fairly sure a viola player didn't write this description. Whomever that might be, they have better drugs than I do.
