Re: Looks like a Kalison
Definitely a rotary valve Kalison with string linkage.
Looks like maybe a CC.

Those are some interesting circuits. That big one right around the bottom bow looks like it gets dinged.

Yeah. Can't see it. I think that is the group run by one of the schmucks who destroyed the other place.

Nah, the only admin of that group (Euph-Tuba-Low Brass Marketplace) is a trombone player from Lawler.the elephant wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2026 4:48 am Yeah. Can't see it. I think that is the group run by one of the schmucks who destroyed the other place.

Re: Looks like a Kalison
Yeah, that's Kalison (or whatever they were called before or after they were Kalison).
I forget, did they use Rotax rotors? I can't seem to zoom in enough to see. I think they did use rotax for their 5th valves, but just can't remember if they used rotax for the few rotary horns they made.
Looks kinda neat, but unique tubas often point to "if it's so great why didn't they make a whole lot more of them?", which is a fair question. Although, it does seem to be reasonably well-used, so....!

Re: Looks like a Kalison
That was the Kalison advertised in the TUBA Journal in the mid- to late-80s. The rotary horn came out first, then the DS was (I think) the same bugle with pistons. Not sure. I owned prototype #2 of the DS. It was great!

My main hesitation having zero experience with these is that for 10k id be making offers for a b&s symphonie or so many other horns.

The price is $10k?Timtamtuba wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2026 2:35 pm My main hesitation having zero experience with these is that for 10k id be making offers for a b&s symphonie or so many other horns.
I think that's a $4k tuba, tops, if it plays really well. Realistically, closer to $3k.
Actual value, is whatever someone will pay for it.

Yeah 10k but I think in maple syrup dollars, either way its a lot. Wish I could post a screenshot. Almost feels like, "I don't really wanna sell this but if you give me 10k its yours"bort2.0 wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2026 3:16 pmThe price is $10k?Timtamtuba wrote: Sat Jun 27, 2026 2:35 pm My main hesitation having zero experience with these is that for 10k id be making offers for a b&s symphonie or so many other horns.![]()
