Hello, I have a jumbo sousaphone that I bought back in 2010. I never used it and it is just sitting in my spare room. It's in really good condition and would like to sale it to someone who can appreciate it. You would have to pick it up here in new jersey. I do not want to ship it. Anyway, if you are interested, I can send you pictures of it. Thank you, Lenny

Likewise i am curious and within range of New Jersey.

I echo other's curiosity about pictures (and as some find memory limits on the forum restrictive, the common work around is to host pictures elsewhere and post a link to them here)

Any idea of your asking price yet? (obviously it is easier to lower a price before you sell it than to raise it afterwards, so no worries if it starts on the high asking side)

It ain't to bad.

I did marched with one on the 4th of July just to say did it.
And now i'm sayin' i did it. Funny that.

I admit, i was a little tired by the end of the day. But i could be heard without overblowing...

PS, congrats on the jumbo!

I usually withhold comments when things are for sale, but since this has been sold, maybe it's okay to comment on the general style of the instrument...(??)

I tend to suspect that these JUMBO sousaphones weren't originally bought with the intention of marching with them (nor even shouldering them), but were set on stands to play in what we now refer to (a century later) as "hotel bands"...a really deep bass sound that was meant to be (as some people used to describe this) "felt and not heard". I really don't believe that they were made this large to assist with loud playing, but mostly fairly soft playing.

Our stands at our high school (1950s - 1970s) were fairly similar to this stand, and - of course not - we didn't have any jumbo sousaphones (we had regular size brass sousaphones which were replaced with fiberglass, as sousaphones were the only instruments our school owned), but we have them sitting on stands somewhat similar to these, we sat off to the player's left of the instrument, turned their mouthpipes way out to the player's left (outside the circle of the instrument), sat to the player's left of the instrument, put our right arm through the donut of the instrument to the valves, and played them in this manner with the bells rotated to face absolutely forward.
Our stands were shaped more like a butterfly to support the sousaphones, with wooden feet and heavy felt padding which was actually riveted to the steel, rather than plastic or rubber. They featured adjustable height and a collapsible tripod base.
