Re: The Nashville Symphony

This was posted on Facebook a few days ago by three-time Grammy winner Mark O'Connor. Apparently all Nashville's major benefactor wanted was to organize a couple of specific concerts, and management told her "No thank you; but keep signing those checks". :facepalm2:

The story I love is Mahler and Freud walking the streets of Leiden (NL), discussing Gustav's many problems. This really happened!

Do not underestimate just how softly all who play before you are going to play. And do not overestimate your ability to play just as softly as they did. My two cents.

That tune was played in garagebands all over Memphis - and even one that I was associated with before I was even in junior high, because everyone was nuts over it.

Well, the band does know other tunes. :teeth: In fact, they had 650+ in their repertoire when I joined, none of 'em written down ...

Have you tried it on newer epoxy lacquers and older lacquer, too?
Yup. If not immediately effective, I leave it on overnight. Works great, but sometimes it leaves black/bluish residue, which can easily be removed with this stuff from Flitz.

I've found Easy-Off (yellow, not blue) to be pretty reliable and effective. Might have to repeat a few times for stubborn spots.

Also obscure: A piece by NY Philharmonic composer in residence David del Tredici called "Tattoo", using two tubas. Some nice writing for the tubas. Believe it or not, I'm playing first on my HB2P, and Warren plays second on the Yorkbrunner he had at the time. Only reason he wanted to play second is ...

Re: 4/4 Tubas in Professional Symphony Recordings

I can clarify a little on the Conn. When I bought it, it still had the Alex valve section on it. For me it had horrendous back pressure--I couldn't play it at all when I first saw it. But Warren had kept the original valve section, and so Matt Walters rebuilt the horn with the original valve ...

Wayne Tanabe says it is.

Frightening that he seems to have so little understanding of how brass instruments actually make sound. Or . . . he's just deliberately peddling nonsense. :eyes:

Don't tell them which one.

Or next to an overly-enthusiastic bass drummer. Each hit ...

Re: 25% tariff increase on brass instruments

So, no, the loophole isn’t simply “import the JinBao in pieces and assemble it here.” The actual government document pretty clearly anticipated parts as well as complete instruments.

"Parts" and components are two different things. A tuning slide is a part. A crook and four slide legs are ...
