Re: Conn-Selmer to shut down Eastlake

Seemingly yet more jobs being taken from workers in the USA and given to folk in the far east where wages are real cheap. It might be a hard headed business decision or it might be a case of maximising profits with no thought for anything else … you decide. I do buy goods made in China, but what I ...

Re: Found: Small/British shank Bb tuba mouthpiece

Found.
Looking for a backup mouthpiece for my Besson NS Bb 3v, which has the smaller British shank receiver. Would prefer a Dennis Wick "1", but will consider others. I'm in Tucson, AZ.

PM me please, unless you're a scammer.

Did you actually end up with a Wick 1 or did you settle for something ...

Re: Reynolds Eb bell-front bell screw size?

Folks - I just scored a Renolds Eb tuba off of eBay that is missing its bell fastening screws. Does anyone know what size thread they are?

Thanks!

I had a similar problem with the lear box screw on my Besson Regent which, iirc, uses an 0BA screw. There are tables that identify the pitch, root ...

Re: boston cl: pan am eb

The advert says it’s an Eb but my eyes say it might be something else … there’s a lot of tubing there for an Eb.

It's smaller than you think it is. This Pan American tuba would eventually become the Conn 14J "Director" model.

Also, the 2nd valve is your clue to this being an Eb.

Thanks. I ...

Re: High note in wind band part

As a Brass Band player - who obviously doesn’t play to MA’s high standard - I won’t get music with that run down from the high Eb, it’d be given to the Euphonium player. What’s written is certainly playable by a three valve Eb and likely intended to be, as the full range of the instrument is used ...

I don't know.

Why aren't interchangeable pistons more common?

I think that Bloke gave the star (high quality) answer near the start of the thread (It requires doing a lot of twisty turny things coming out of the valves to get the circuits out of each others' ways, so there's a trade off).

The ...

I have an AT5U in decent / good shape, if you're interested. Not sure of the difference between the two.

I have an adaptor I will no longer use.

For those of us who might consider buying one who makes such adaptors?

I think mine came from Wessex, but I don't know if they still carry them.

Thank you.

Thanks already have a 4L in use on the Hagen. It can't be two places at once, and -- for me -- it isn't going to work on the NStar.

Oh well, if you’ve tried a 4L in the NStar and it doesn’t work for you then that’s that. There might still be the ‘unsold’ 5L from eBay.com, if you want to pursue ...

There was a 5L on eBay.com that didn’t sell for $75 inc shipping. That’s not cheap, it’s but less than half the new price.

Looking for a backup. Needs to have a smooth rim, otherwise don't care. Would prefer gold plate but not important.

Re: Best choices to support 55-60 member band

To my mind the OP is pushing at the boundaries of what is practical and their chances of success are limited.

There might be marginal gains to be found here and there and cumulative marginal gains can make a useful difference, but what’s needed is simply beyond what’s reasonable to ask of any ...

Re: a post about setting tubas on their bells (perhaps not what some might expect to read)

Hercules make good products so one of their Tuba Stands will very likely be amongst the best available.

My personal preference is to stand the instrument on its bell with the main body to a wall, but after that, the instrument goes in its case. Well, that’s sort of the situation but I apply ...

Floral Dance at 130. Ride, or die.

 It’s quite a nice piece, though I wouldn’t want to play it too often. The piece was made popular in Helston in Cornwall, as accompanying music to their annual Flora day celebrations (on 8th May) which go back centuries.

These are satisfying little tubas.

I suspect that essential the same instrument had a different model name depending whether Boosey and Hawkes or a Besson was engraved on the bell. I’ve a similar Eb Regent and can confirm that these compact student instruments are very satisfying to play and ...

Re: selecting a tuba mouthpiece

The Olds is a three valve BBb so you don’t necessarily need the largest of cups but you won’t get away with a small piece (which you might on a three valve Eb). I second the idea of a Bach 22, some folk will swear that a Bach 24AW is a good all-rounder, but my own choice would be a Wick 3L (which is ...
