On his former 4 valves Rudy 5/4, my colleague did that. A repairman linked the first and third slides, so that when he was moving the first, the third was moving as well. From what I remember, the action was pretty smooth.

If the low C is very sharp even with an extended fourth slide, maybe 5-3 (or 5-1-2) can work?

I find that trying to match (reach, control) a pitch while playing tuba (or other low brass instruments) often leads to playing too sharp. I am not sure why, maybe something with the fact that lots of overtones in our sounds makes it difficult for our ears to stick to something trustful.

If you want to keep the old PT-1 outer and inner dimension, rather than the new PT popular outer shell, you can go with a Rudolf Meinl RM1 mouthpiece. It's going to be extremely similar. I think Lee Stofer has them in stock.
