Re: Apartment Living Practice
my solution was to get in my pick up truck, and go someplce with decent accoustics, put down the tailgale and have at it. I actually almost always did it on jobs. So if you have a pickup truck you're half way there. Best to YOU, ED

Re: Mahler Symphony no. 1 Tuba Choice (Poll)
I don't know if the part is specifially marked but if it came up on one of our concerts I would just play it on my King B flat. It's technically simple and it only goes up to A at the top of the staff. Yes, I am a caveman. Ed

Re: souped up Cerveny "Piggy" C
the Cerveny has a bore of .835 and a 186 Mirafone is .770. And the bell of a Piggy is right there next to your ear. Piggies also have the open wrap 3rd and 4th valve slides and are Very free blowing. Both are great, I guess it's a matter of which one works best in your particular group and which is ...

No post is complete without a picture, the same picture every time, of that horn. Everyone has seen it . Thank you very much.

Re: August Bonus: Two Holton tubas…a ‘Del Negro’ model and a ‘Richardson’ model
The one that Fred Pfaff is holding was sold by him to a private school in Orlando. Years later it turned up on Ebay at a scooter store in Titusville and I recognized it from that picture and told a friend who digs old horns about it. He went to check it out but it was missing a valve and he thought ...

A Christmas Wish
I posted about this awhile ago but listed the wrong title. If you pull it up on Youtube the thumbnail reads The Great Rupert and Jimmy Durante's face is next to it but the actual title is A Christmas Wish. The tuba playing on the opening overture is tremendous. Obviously a big B flat but there's an ...

King 1241
I got this horn in 1989. Brushed silver with the 22 inch upright bell. It was crazy tarnished but upon cleaning it up I found next to no dents. I soon had the first slide flipped to tune from the top, took the loop out of the third valve circut, and had a new leadpipe bent for it because the ...

Re: Whiteman Grand Canyon Suite Cloudburst
Fred was living in Central Florida when I got here in 1983.He had retired from the New York scene and come here to relax and fish but was soon enticed to join the (then) Orlando Symphony. When he retired from that Lee Richardson came in and became good friends with Fred. I have a recording of Fred ...

Whiteman Grand Canyon Suite Cloudburst
Good morning all, I just came across a 1932 recording of Paul Whiteman conducting Grand Canyon Suite and was pleasently suprised by the tuba playing. The Cloudburst movement, as I'm sure most of you know, has a loud, low, busy part that I've never heard really come out before but this player knocks ...

Re: Interesting Tuba
Thanks for posting this Mike. I well remember those horns at Mr. Sear's shop in the mezzanine of the paramount Hotel. He would almost always tout their durability with " you can take these on the subway" hence we ,in the West Point Band referred to them as the Subway Model. Bob Stewart reminds me ...

I'd like to sell them for 75 bucks each. Pictures on request. They are located on the southern edge of the ...
