Re: a 5th added

At the risk of (rudely) me-too-ing...(hopefully, interpreted as "sharing")...

Here's my similar thingie...I'm thinking I did this back in the 1990's...

a 5th added

As a Christmas present for myself I finally had a 5th installed on my G&P CC Tuba. The rotor is Voigt, it works very nicely and I wonder how I didn't do it before.

Re: Soundline gig bag

I have a Soundline for my E.A.Fischer small CC since 4 years and it is still as good as new. And I even use it to carry the tuba on my rowing boat when playing in the band of the village across the lake. I don't think it can float though, better not to try..

Re: Odd find: Elkhorn by Getzen Sousaphone (made in Italy?)

I can just confirm that Amborg was an italian maker; the factory was located about 5 miles from where I live, and they used to make a line of instruments commonly used in the "italian style" band ( the whole range of flicorni from the small Eb flicornino down to the basso) and if I remember right ...

I was the one who brought it on the east side of the pond some years ago. A very fine instrument.

Re: A new tuba is born

I'm curious why a Melton instrument was hanging around the G+P factory.

G&P still has the tooling and drawings of the late Kalison Milano, and their bells and bodies were Melton. Also the valve set is made in Deutschland. The Kalison DS had a wider bell flare, while this was an experiment ...

Re: A new tuba is born

yes, it's based on the DS design, just a narrower bell ( 42 cm). Melton body and bell. I will be probably adding a 5th rotor, 1 step, but not sure yet

A new tuba is born

IMG-20221010-WA0020.jpg After a lot of pondering and browsing through new and old tubas for sale all over the World, and after having considered various projects of restoration/assembling of old parts, I ended up having one made for me from existing new parts. I was looking for a very "standard ...

Re: Cerveny models from Josef Lidl

I had a chance to visit the Lidl factory about 5-6 years ago, when it was still located in downtown Brno, and tried out a few tubas. I second Tofu's opinion on them, very well made instruments, and I regret not having bought one, at least as an investment. Every once in a while those older models ...

Re: instruments setting out - at the ready

I think that not only keeping the instrument out of the case helps to practice more: even the size of the horn is a factor. I notice that it's much easier to practice at home with my small 3/4 CC than with the 6/4. I need less room, can lift it and spin it much more easily and it's less prone to ...
