I agree with arpthark!
My wife and I look forward to your posts and both of us like vintage tubas! I hope that you find another group of instruments or repeat what you have been doing with the Simonetti Historic Tuba Collection.
thank you,
Mark

Re: Chicago
Not music, but worth the trip:
Museum of Science and Industry (already mentioned)
If you go and have time check out the U505
Another place that I like is the Shedd Aquarium (second on my list)
Like any large city, there are many fantastic things to do then you will have time for.

Of all of the options, please do not sell it for scrap or for parts.
All of these that were listed are good options:
- donate it to a museum
- keep it and maybe tinker with the valves in a few years
I also like the suggestion to bring it to Tuba Christmas.

Re: Baer MMVI on a Kaiser BBb
As I understand it, Connie Weldon (my teacher at the University of Miami) used a Bach 12 on an Alexander 164 BB flat when she played in the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
That said, a Bach 18 may be good with a Kaiser BB flat. I used a Bach 18 for around 10 years (Alexander 163) before I switched to a ...

Contact Baltimore Brass. I do not know if they rent instruments but it is worth a try.

I posted this reply in the "Wanted to Buy" section.
Baltimore Brass might still have the Alex 163 bell that I traded for some repair work (when Dave Fedderly still owned the business). If they still have the bell it is yellow brass and in good shape. I bought it around 30 years ago from someone ...

If you really like the tuba and it does what you need it to do, repair it.

Re: John fletcher's Tuba for sale by the LSO - EEb
I heard John Fletcher play the second movement of the Vaughn Williams Tuba Concerto at the International Brass Conference in 1982. He was a great musician.
He also gave a lecture that was both informative and funny.

Connie Weldon played an Alex 164 B flat before I studied with her. She played it while she played in the Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Although someone else owned the tuba at the time I did get a chance to play it. It was a fine tuba with a big sound. I remember the response was very good and the ...

With all of the horn swapping that we all do, does anybody else think that the player has a tone that the instrument emulates for better or worse?
I agree.
I think that matching a tuba (and mouthpiece) to the player is a good thing. I also believe that learning to play an instrument (and ...
