Re: Miraphone 184 BBb in SoCal?
First new horn I bought in 1983 was a BBflat 184, sn 12453 (funny how I still remember that.) Great horn and for me was the ultimate quintet horn ...I wonder what life would be like today if I hadn't gone off on Tubenet-fueled equipment infatuation nonsense, and eventually "switched to CC" in 1998 ...

Re: Miraphone 184 BBb in SoCal?
Was it for sale on here?
greenbean had mentioned this one being for sale:
“Yes, it is a terrific horn. I also own a 184 BBb also. Cosmetically roughly but also a great horn. In fact, I am playing them side-by-side. It is hard to say which plays *better* but the 185 definitely puts out a bigger ...

Re: Projects: Cerveny 5v Eb conversion and Mira-Bach 184
Oh my! I have been struggling to turn a knuckle on a valve casing for a fifth on my BBb 186. Smooshing the first valve tubing over is a great idea. Then I can use a stock casing. Why didn't I think of this!
So on that new first valve tubing, what you lose in the length of the crook, you gain back ...

Re: Projects: Cerveny 5v Eb conversion and Mira-Bach 184
I am going to use the two short-length 90 degree bend legs from the original first valve circuit and the donor fifth valve circuit to route the fifth valve circuit. For the slide, I will use the longest inner/outer tubes from the donor set (from the 4th valve circuit) and the crook will be a donor ...

Re: Quintet Musings
M-W euphoniums are pretty rare, but they're huge.
People think they play badly out of tune, because the outside slides are short, and all the slides need to be pulled a good bit vs. the typical euphonium - whereby typically most of the slides are in nearly all the way with most makes. I own one ...

Tucson AZ to SoCal?
Is there anyone going through Tucson, AZ on their way to southern Californina that might have space to bring a (tuba) mute with them in exchange for some gas money in the next month or two or three?
It doesn’t take up a huge amount of space, is a good listener, doesn’t need to stop for restroom ...

Re: Projects: Cerveny 5v Eb conversion and Mira-Bach 184
I've figured out how to configure the fifth rotor on top of the 4v block by using a donor L-shaped piece of tubing from the donor 1st valve and a donor 2nd valve slide. It will end up looking kind of like how five valve Alexanders look:

except the 5th rotor will ...

Miraphone 184 BBb in SoCal?
Does anyone in southern California have a Miraphone 184 in BBb that would consider letting me play it for maybe 10 minutes in exchange for me buying breakfast or lunch?
I have never played one but am intrigued and may be interested in buying or trading for one (1958 DC USN 4v Martin Mammoth?)

I don’t know if it’s still there, but there was a great pizza place in Caledonia (at least back 23 years or so). Excellent thin crust (or what some call tavern style) pizza. They made their own sausage. Back in my Mergers & Acquisitions days I spent a couple months just around the corner ...

Re: York Master .750" BBb body/valveset poll
My thought would be to look for a bell first, see what you think of it. If not thrilled, then use the valves elsewhere.
From that Dillon's picture, I believe they said the bell was from a Jupiter. I'll PM you another idea/source.
