Re: Couturier Curiosity

humbell--there is a Couturier BBb helicon out there. Mine was sold through Baltimore Brass, probably around 2015 (might have been later).

Re: Conn 56J Prototype (Reverb)

The tuba for sale used to belong to me, and is for sale by the friend I sold it to. This was Matt Walter's prototype for Conn-Selmer of a CC version of the well-known King BBb. To my knowledge all parts originated as King parts, except for some customizations used by Matt. The bell thus has King ...

Re: Wiseman Cases bought by JL Smith CO

The Wiseman cases are excellent. I got one years ago when they first came out. They can configure them to be adaptable to accommodate different instruments, which selective placement of velcro-strapped dense foam blocks. Mine came with blocks to fit 6 different instruments. A prime advantage is ...

Re: 4/4 Tubas in Professional Symphony Recordings

The Toby Hanks Holton is an interesting and seemingly unique tuba. It dates to 1914-15, and is probably best characterized as 3/4 tuba, as it is quite small-- smaller, I'm sure, than a 5J, though I don't have one here to compare. I have not seen even pictures of a Holton of this size.

Toby used ...

Re: 4/4 Tubas in Professional Symphony Recordings

On another topic from above, Jonathan Fowler plays a 163 in the Columbus Symphony. When I first moved here a couple of years ago I was struck with his gorgeous sound, and the remarkable blend with both the basses and the horns and trombones. I had not heard that live since Dave Kirk arrived in ...

Re: 4/4 Tubas in Professional Symphony Recordings

I can clarify a little on the Conn. When I bought it, it still had the Alex valve section on it. For me it had horrendous back pressure--I couldn't play it at all when I first saw it. But Warren had kept the original valve section, and so Matt Walters rebuilt the horn with the original valve section ...

Mike Milnarik had sold some very nice and well-padded two-mouthpiece pouches. You might check with him.

Longshot WTB: Buzzinger

Does anyone happen to have a Buzzinger (as sold by Tubabassadors in Japan) they would like to sell. The website says they are out of stock for a couple of months; so I'm hoping for less delay for my gratification.

Thanks!

Looking for Protective Hand Rest Pads for Tuba--Not Leather

I believe I saw an ad in the past 2-3 months about someone newly making such pads, I believe partially of neoprene. But I have not found what I saw, or any other info on such. I found a few of the long term suppliers of tuba wraps, but most of those are leather pads.

I believe it may be possible to ...

For Sale VMI 3301 BBb (Sold)

Here is the second BBb for sale. This, again is an excellent instrument in excellent condition. The only cosmetic flaws I see are a couple of minor scratches on the inside of the bell, and wear of lacquer right around the bell rim.

Response and intonation are both very good. The response is helped ...

Eastman EBB825VG for sale (Sold)

I am selling a couple of BBb tubas. This is the first--an approximately 16 month old Eastman 5V 825VG (the letters signifying a gold brass bell, and 5 valves). I was on a BBb quest last year and settled on this one. The horn is in excellent condition. There are some small scratches on the bell rim ...

Re: Interesting Tuba

Unclebeer--Could very well be Deprins. From what I see on horn-u-copia, the relevant Deprins and Mahillon look strikingly similar, differing largely in the placement of the 1st valve slide (which could be attributable to the pictures Deprins being a CC, and the Mahillon a BBb). It's not the first ...

Interesting Tuba

Thought this unusual tuba might be of interest to some.

I watched a youtube video of the Gil Evans band playing Jimi Hendrix in Warsaw in 1976, with Bob Stewart on tuba (link below). Bob is playing an interesting tuba that I did not recognize, particularly because of the shepherd's crook ...

The price on this instrument has been reduced. If someone is interested, and makes arrangements with me, the horn can be at NABBA in Fort Wayne, IN next weekend.

Re the mouthpiece, Bloke—the Conn Visible Embouchure mouthpieces. They were made for all brass. They were made is transparent red and clear, though the clear ones are harder to find to find these days. I recall seeing a picture of one in another color at some point.

Re: Mirafone fantasy

Mark--Interesting to know you bought your Mirafone from Bill also.

I bought my 186 BBb in 1966 (with some assistance). Then, the tuba was $650.00, and the hard case was $90. At that time, I had never seen a tuba bag. That instrument had the classic Mirafone lacquer that would deteriorate if one ...

5th valve slide assembly for PT6/MRP?

I know this may be a long shot, but does anyone have an extra such 5th valve slide assembly they could/would part with? I need the W-configured assembly, as well as the narrower tuning slide that fits into it.

Thanks in advance!
