Re: What did you play today?

A terrific concert this afternoon. Our band played last on the program and certainly rose to the occasion! Excellent dynamics and paying attention to all the little details really made things go extremely smoothly. A full house with a very appreciative audience and a very pleased conductor at the ...

Re: Bridge City Brass Band Concert in Saskatoon!

LOL! Over a month after the concert and I can report that it was terrific. Our audience filled the bottom half of the church and seemed to really enjoy the program. A one hour and five minute concert with no intermission and minimal introductions to each piece by the conductor really helped keep the ...

Re: a post about setting tubas on their bells (perhaps not what some might expect to read)

The stand you described was sold through Baltimore Brass at one point. Check with them to see if they still stock them. Failing that, a competent woodworker should be able to make you one. Good Luck!

Re: What did you play today?

Our third Bridge City Brass Band performance of the season is coming up very shortly. Sunday, March 8th. Yesterday's rehearsal was spent just working on the spots that need attention. I finally know enough :eyes: to not waste time playing the stuff I can already play and just focus on the trouble ...

Re: What did you play today?

Today was Community Concert Band music practice at home. Warmup and then "Fiddler On The Roof", "Baba Yetu", "Blue Tango", "Elton John Favorites","Gabriel's Oboe","The Lion King","Tijuana Brass In Concert" and "Semper Fidelis". I then took a break and read the Elephant's post in this same thread and ...

Re: Some thoughts on downsizing /advice and opinions sought

This is an issue as well for me. Your wife's quote in the above text is something that I often think of when downsizing becomes an issue. The two horns I play the most are the King 2341 and the Holton Mammoth. The other two have memory value for me, however they certainly are not played more than ...

Hey! That's my tuba! My horn was made in 1916 in Chicago. A great horn if you have an iron lung and a huge air compressor to help you fill it. :facepalm2: :tuba:

Danzon#2 was put on the stand for tonight's other Community Concert Band rehearsal. I love this piece and am really glad that we are playing it again. The second of our three indoor concerts this season is on February 7, 2026 at the historic Broadway Theatre here in Saskatoon. It seats about 350 ...

Re: Dystonia and moving on with life

Thank you for sharing this very personal story. Congratulations on making the choices that will give you peace. Playing the tuba is something I have done for over fifty years and sometimes it has felt much more like a job than the career I actually had as a school administrator. I am an amateur ...
