Here it is next to a Yorkbrunner

Was able to spend an hour or so on the 693 and ended up buying it.

It was a lot better than I thought it would be. It's not without faults (wasn't expecting a perfect tuba for under $4k), but this particular one has pretty good intonation and is very free blowing.

The 693 is more of a poor man's ...

Also a Cerveny 693 near-ish you and at the top of your price range being consigned by Chris Lair:

I am in the market for a large rotary BBb tuba. I am very interested in the Cerveny 696. Would also consider an Alexander 164. My price range is around $4000 max. I am located in Stafford, VA.

Still available! A lot of interest but no bites yet

What is the 5th valve configuration? 2 steps?

This one is a flat whole step

A couple years ago I thought it would be a great idea to get a Miraphone 188 as my lone personally owned instrument, never really expecting to use it much. The thinking was to have a "point and shoot" tuba that could sit in our spare room until I needed it for work outside the Army.

As it turned ...

Love the 497 Daniel!!!

I remember hearing somewhere that a lot of those Yorkbrunners/HB piston 4/4’s can benefit from a 3rd slide cut. My HB2P was just fine in that department, but YMMV. This early one may just have been built too long.

$18K… Optimistic, especially with the current inflated York copy market, but you do ...

I think it’s fine if people go to school for postgraduate music degrees so long as they know what they want out of a career and have a clear concept of what they want/need from a program. What bothers me is how common it is for students to decide to enter a grad program as a means to buy time while ...

This piece is going to be performed with orchestra at the Army Tuba-Euph Workshop in February by SSG Alec Rich!

I like a lot of what you wrote here. I do want to emphasize #9 for anyone interested in auditioning for professional bands or orchestras. Being able to articulate clearly will set you apart from the vast majority of the field in tuba auditions. Tone, groove and clarity is the holy trinity of ...

I have an AT4U and a MR. P 5.0 to offer in a potential trade for a Schilke Helleberg II.

My favorite is the US Army Tuba Euphonium Workshop at Ft. Myer in Arlington, VA. It is free, three and a half days, and occurs the first weekend in February. Parking is free and you can also tour DC when you're in town.
