Re: Eastman buys Willson
Fantastic news - I am very happy to hear that - I suspected that was the case but I just wanted to make sure. I have always known the quality of their products to be of the highest standard, second to none.

Re: Eastman buys Willson
Ok - reviving this thread:
Does anyone happen to know DEFINITIVELY if Willson is still building their horns (most specifically meaning MANUFACTURE OF COMPONENTS, such as valve sets, bells, branches, etc)….in Switzerland, or have these been outsourced to Eastman?

Resurrecting this thread because I’ve been looking around for the old Schilke “guppy lube” formula…..it seems to be somewhat elusive, because I haven’t found it yet.

Mr X, a long-time and valuable employee of Mr Y, decides to take what he’s learned at Y’s company and start one of his own.
Mr X starts his new firm on a shoestring, and can only supply a small percentage of products that he wants to, so he goes to Mr Y, buys the items he is not set up to supply ...

Does anyone have any thoughts as to what those weird looking “blobs” are on the bell in the 2nd photo?

Re: odd things about (some really fine) wind bands
You could say I’m semi-retired (meaning I don’t “chase” gigs anymore, although I certainly will play them when they come along). Those “wall to wall fists full of flying notes” concerts are perfect for keeping in shape during the times in between.

Wow, this is great news, thank you for bringing it to prominence. I’ll be watching closely - - -
There’s been a pretty big hole in this department since Mr Secrist retired from Anderson. And, it appears to be close enough to be a day trip (or a day and a half, anyway).

Re: odd things about (some really fine) wind bands
Very interesting observations.
In my opinion wind bands should model after how the Sousa Band started concerts. Once the house doors were open, no one was allowed to play one note anywhere in the building - all warming up was done before this time. Sousa didn’t want any extraneous musical sounds in ...

Now, maybe there will be a stronger market for slicked-out, fixed-up, modernized vintage American-made tubas………(by an American?)

That tuba is a side action conversion of a York 33 bugle in BBb.

Pretty restrained performance for Rollini, if that was him.
For a pretty good while, they were using a young man who was also tall but didn't appear to be as tall just because of his build, and he owned both a Buescher 4/4 sousaphone and a Buescher bass sax. I might suspect that it's that ...

Re: Holton Del Negro BB-flat tubas
@Yorkboy, would you say that if you wrapped a top action York 700's bows backward to be front action, it would look pretty much the same as the one in the unitec case?
Yes, I would. In fact, since I’ve never seen, either in person or in a catalogue, a 4/4 side action Holton, I’d say it’s a pretty ...

Re: Holton Del Negro BB-flat tubas
The valves on those Del Negro horns looks like a sousaphone block forced into a vertical plane. I’ve had my secret suspicion for many years now that in those days York made those piston sets for Holton (among many other parts such as bells and larger branches, which I have already seen definitive ...

Yes, Herman Conrad.
I’ve never seen an example of that model in person, or in any catalog. There is absolutely no question it’s a Holton.

Words to live by!
Let’s be positive, then.
The winner can have someone paste on a four valve set, and then they can tape down the fourth valve. Seems like a valid work-around……?

Re: Keebay...
That’s in E flat, not enough branches.
It was a quality instrument in its day, but $1,525 is way too high as far as I’m concerned.
If the winning bidder is expecting a BBb horn, they are going to be mightily disappointed.
