... Music education majors NEED f tubas these days to even compete with the big kids.
A friend working on a DMA teaches private lessons for high school kids. He’s now using a piston F at tuba and euphonium lessons, claiming it’s close enough to both and much more convenient than bringing two.
I do this sometimes. Mainly bring my big horn now when teaching trombone (more for tuba students later). I musically demonstrate on whatever horn. When I was doing a lot of beginner and middle school students, I’d bring my F a ton to play at octave with them.
For music ed majors, you don’t need an F or a CC. I don’t require a CC…but I’m weird.

I didn’t realize you could haul things in a cybertruck. The place full of knowledge.
Yes, your can, Then you have to wait two hours for it to recharge before you can go home. If you can find a charging station that hasn't been vandalized.

Oh, and a Cybertruck to haul them to gigs. Otherwise, Junior will throw a hissy-fit about being laughed at by the other kids.
Get a CT and Junior probably will get laughed at by the other kids

There are several Cybertrucks in my neighborhood; including one that has a wood grain wrap. I'm laughing all the time.
If I clamp my trolling motor - with it's deep-cycling battery - onto my (bought for $40 at an estate sale) aluminum jon boat, is it then classified as a cyberboat?

A friend of my son was given a brand new CC Miraphone 185 by her parents... It was a complete and total surprise to the young lady .. they ordered it based on the recommendation of the Music and Arts sales guy, without discussing it with her or her teacher... on the basis that it would be a good "forever tuba" for her..
That was Christmas... now they are trying to sell it... she no longer wants to do performance because her teacher was honest (too honest?) with his assessment of her ability to do well in college auditions.. she struggled to learn CC while also playing BBb in school and other ensembles. and got extremely frustrated.. and of generally kind of resentful that her parents didn't involve her in such a large purchase "for her."
They did get all the social media posts of an excited young girl unwrapping a brand new Miraphone though.
Wait - was this recent history? I ask because I play a 185 & they haven’t been in regular production at least 20 years. It’s my understanding it’s a special order item these days from Miraphone who then makes & ships it. That’s just a nuts story to begin with of buying a horn with no teacher/kid input. Even more so if they special ordered, waited for and bought such a unicorn horn. Or is that a typo and supposed to be 186? Just curious as mention of a 185 always spikes my interest.

So now.. I get to look like an idiot. I asked my son.. It was a 188 recommend by Music and Arts and bought through Buckeye brass. One of her parents said 185 and I didn't stop to think of actually look at their social media. I also didn't realize the 185 wasn't in regular production anymore.
EDIT:ON SECOND THOUGHT I REMOVED THE PHOTO. EVEN THOUGH I CROPPED AND REDACTED IT...IT STILL IS OF A MINOR AND POTENTIALLY IDENTIFIABLE TO HER.
If anyone is looking for a 188 it will probably be showing up on the Buckeye Brass Website soon.
Sorry for making an absurd story even more unbelievable.

In fairly recent memory Dillon had a new 185. Reports of people who play tested that one said it had pretty severe intonation problems. A 188, they should have no trouble selling though, and hopefully lesson learned by the parents.
DISCLAIMER: I wasn't there. I don't know the exact circumstances. Could be more complex than what was stated. But wow.
Let me get this straight.
* Parents bought their child, what is regarded by many as a GREAT horn with a long history through a respected dealer.
* The teacher gave some feedback on the child's playing abilities.
* That discouraged the child SO BAD, that they went from excited about this fantastic tuba to "get rid of it?"
Did I get that right? That sounds like a "time for a new teacher" discussion. That level of discouragement sounds pretty crushing.

I've already made a mess of things so I don't want to wander too far into gossip. The tuba was a complete surprise to her... she wasn't involved in the process at all. She never seemed that excited about it at all according to my son... she never put any effort into learning CC. Shortly after this her teacher bluntly told her that she isn't good enough to get into the university he teaches at or other good programs (again this is gathered from a very brief conversation with her....I don't know what her teacher actually said..For the record she is a very good high school player and is in many of the same honors ensembles as my son). She dropped lessons entirely after that. My son has suggested she try lessons with @russiantuba but she has not really been interested. I think she is going to be majoring in music ed with an interest in early childhood.
