Latzsch cimbasso

Post by cskatz »

Has anyone on the forum ever played a Latzsch cimbasso? Is the $17k price justified? From the specs it seems to be more like what bloke says a cimbasso should be (.650 bore, etc). Dillon has it on their website (but out of stock).

Lätzsch is among the more exclusive manufacturers of high-profile trombones and general brass.
So at the very least, the immense price tag is PLAUSIBLE.

I have no idea if the actual horn is actually WORTH that kind of money...

I haven't, but I very much suspect you wouldn't be disappointed...

I have great curiosity about these but it will not be satisfied in any way unless I have a previously agreed upon long gig needing a cimbo, which clearly isn't going to happen for a number of reasons. I don't think there even IS a cimbo in the entire city of Tucson, although there might be one in Phoenix.

What it reminds me of is back when I was entranced with bass oboe before I found out my hands were likely not big enough to reach the keys, my then teacher instantly wanted to have me lend it to their double reed quartet. I was, um, nope on that. Not in the business of buying expensive instruments so others can play them!
