Re: Teach me about tuba conferences
My favorite is the US Army Tuba Euphonium Workshop at Ft. Myer in Arlington, VA. It is free, three and a half days, and occurs the first weekend in February. Parking is free and you can also tour DC when you're in town.

couldn't agree more. Good elephant room, fantastic concerts. Free parking and free to attend. I may never go to another ITEC unless it's in my back yard, and maybe not even then

Re: Teach me about tuba conferences
a bunch of people - most of whom are somewhat overweight - playing new "music" for the tuba in recitals, and everyone else making grumbling noises with other people's for sale Chinese tubas in the elephant room.
There might also be a panel discussion on "the future of tuba playing in the 21st century and beyond".
... Usually a couple of mouthpieces are stolen off of someone's display, and - every once in awhile - someone gets away with a tuba.

Just curious... Why do you call the exhibitors' room as elephant room?LeMark wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:09 pmsweaty wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 3:14 pm My favorite is the US Army Tuba Euphonium Workshop at Ft. Just rephrasing my question:Robson wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 7:38 pm Perfect!!!![]()
Am I welcome if I'm not an American Citizen? You know, just visiting the country....
Sorry if it's dumb question.
The US Army Tuba Euphonium Workshop is something provided by the American Government (not a private conference). Is it allowed for a foreign visitor to participate?

I attended twice of the ITG (trumpet conference)... The exhibitors room is absolutely annoying! Can you imagine a bunch of trumpet players trying to play double high C at the same time?bloke wrote: Wed Apr 30, 2025 8:24 pm a bunch of people - most of whom are somewhat overweight - playing new "music" for the tuba in recitals, and everyone else making grumbling noises with other people's for sale Chinese tubas in the elephant room.

Jeff Curnow! This guy is so funny, and also a great trumpet player!
Re: Teach me about tuba conferences
In fact I couldn't find it... It's possible to get in touch with the trombone players for the next Trombone Workshop, but there's no e-mail contact for the next Tuba and Euphonium workshop.LeMark wrote: Thu May 01, 2025 7:38 am I think you should contact them about that. I tried to find in another place on the army website, but part of the website is blocked (denied access) for people outside the U.S.

Re: Teach me about tuba conferences
Go ahead and ask your question, the policies will be the same for both conferences. If that doesn't work, I have a good friend who happens to be a former student that is in the Army Band that hosts the event. I'll get you a contact email so you can ask questions

Re: Teach me about tuba conferences
"There's got to be a trick to this jazz thing...
I've heard them say that they're always either a half step or a whole step from the right note...yeah... That MUST be the trick !!!
...and they might be able to play that stuff, but they can never play 'classical' the right way... and their gigs probably only pay about $125 each for 2 hours - two or three times a month at the most, whereas my symphony orchestra pays me $3,000 a year for thirty services."
