FS: Silver Mirafone 184 CC 5U

The pictures show it all. According to the serial number, it was made in 1974. This beautiful horn comes with two tuning slides, one for BBb and one for CC. The fifth valve is Major 3rd down. This horn plays very typical of Mirafones in CC. I did not play it in BBb, so I can not comment. I have played this horn with my colleagues in the faculty brass quintet, and it is sweet. Asking $8000, picked up in Lynchburg, VA. A mouthpiece is not included, but I have a Gold Bach Megatone 18 that looks great with this silver horn, which is available for an additional $200 (MP was played minimally, no wear, never dropped).

I played a brass quintet gig this morning with this horn, and now I'm thinking of taking my ad down because I'm lovestruck all over again by a tuba.

I own two 184's. They really are fanastic instruments. They put out a really nice sound, are super nimble, and are very secure in the upper register.

I'm trying to convince myself to sell mine as well, and I keep being unable to do it. It's such a unique instrument and covers so much ground with a particular presence that you can't get anywhere else.

The euphonium was a substitute. All other Horn players were working on Easter Sunday. Imagine that! :tuba:

You would think they would sell more new ones than they do, unless it's not really the same instrument. Although with the two I have owned, both would have gained from an E in the staff playable in tune without alternate fingerings.
