Just curious if anyone knows of any Miraphone 496s available for sale? I see one at Dillon, but anything on the used market? I’d like a 5-valve if I can find one but open to a 4-valve variant.

I had a GR51, which I really liked, but wanted something a bit bigger and have read a lot of good things ...

Thanks Mark, I wasn’t sure and had never seen a long 5th valve wrap like that before. Bummer it sold because it was only a few hours from me.

Saw that earlier and texted the owner, sold it earlier today. But it’s probably a CC right?

I emailed with the guy and confirmed it has a large shank MP. I live ~10 mins away. This guy always has a smattering of interesting things for sale on Craigslist, never see them elsewhere (except every once in a while he has an eBay auction).

Very tempting if I was better at CC fingerings! What a nice horn, and not too far from me.

Question- how well does it play with the Bb slide in place? Does it have intonation problems? Do the valve slides have enough length to get it to play in tune in Bb? Or is it just a gimmick, and better left in C?

I emailed with the owner, seemed legit. He had it on Facebook marketplace and marked it as sold the other day so I suspect it may be gone.

Update as it’s been a while: I finally got the bassoon and the Besson tuba back from the shop. I’m $900 more invested in this venture but I think it will be worth it. The bassoon is now in great shape and I have a potential buyer mulling it over. If he passes I’ll put it up online. Very cool older ...

At that price point, check out the B&S that Tom of Mack Brass (but not Mack Brass made) has for sale. That horn looks awesome to me.

Not sure if someone here grabbed this but I saw it on FB yesterday. Quite the provenance, was only available for a few mins before it was marked sold.

Any other background would be cool to know.
