Re: Stand Magnets

My Ipad is laughing right now.

If you also get phone calls on your ipad (I have no idea if you can) then you could make that laugh the ring tone.
However, if there is a gust of wind strong enough to blow your stand over, it's my cook book cover that's going to be laughing at your ipad. :laugh ...

Re: Sousaphone bell rings for a few seconds after the note is played

I used to have a 4-valve Reynolds bell front horn - the bell rang so long after a cutoff that it sounded like too much reverb.

So it worked out great. The guy that sits next to me said, "I am already coveting it" so I am going to make him one, too. I need to come up with a better (more universal) way to mount it.

Re: paperless

I don't directly, but my AirTurn Duo500 pedal can be separated and connected to a switch (anything with a contact closure), and I recall (I think here) someone mentioning using a switch by Flic. (https://flic.io/shop)

Here's what I whipped up on my 3D printer. Using this button thingy:

Do you have a link to said button? I use a pedal but quite often can't find it with my foot.

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico

I will never forget the first time a supervisor showed me how virtual machines work; how cool they are. It blew my mind. They are a total IT game changer. Even though I have been retired for a few years now, I still maintain an HP server at home just so I can play with them. Before VM's, if you ...

Did you see the evening update Wade?

Had not seen it. Checked my email just now due to your question, and

THAT SOLVES THE WORST PART. Now I have to purchase a new computer, permanently isolate it from the Internet, and freeze the OS and Finale pretty much forever.

But at least after ...

Why not? I find it easy to use and it does everything I need and you can't beat the price.

The most frustrating part is no matter how many times you report this obvious fraud to Facebook, they refuse to block it, saying "We’ve taken a look and found that this ad doesn’t go against our Advertising Standards."

Re: Returning Player Advice

Here's a blunt suggestion which is only meant as a sincere helpful suggestion:

If you actually do have a mustache, I would encourage you to either choose the mustache or choose tuba playing.

People will read my post here and argue against it and contradict it. Whatever. :eyes:

Re: Advice on tuba purchase...

Went to visit a local tuba paler/seller today.

Has an older somewhat used Yamaha YBB201SS for sale at 2k w/ new case and mouthpiece. Very nice and tuba-wise individual.

Can pay and pick up.

Any thoughts or advice?

I'd say keep looking. If your heart's set on a YBB201 then they can be had ...

I've owned maybe 3 or 4 of these over the years and in my experience, the rotary valve linkage has consistently been bad-to-mediocre.

Re: ergonomics and 6/4 piston "York"-style C tubas

I've tried all sorts of ways to hold it. When it's on my left thigh, the valves seem a mile away. But you must be aware, I am seriously short for my weight so that might be a factor. I usually have it on the same stand that I put my BBb on (VMI 3302) and that seems to be the best but it's still not ...

That's how I have to hold my JP377. Drives me nuts. Too bad - it's a great horn otherwise.

EVEN THOUGH a regular piano bench is too wide (to comfortably sit on it SIDEWAYS and rest the tuba on the bench itself - in front of you - you might TEST a piano bench and - if that hints at a solution - you might (??) consider doing that I've done (to play my 98).

So I sit next to a retiree whose playing has degraded to pretty badly but he is almost always present, is nice to talk to and is probably the best grandfather in the world for his autistic grandson (starting trombone) and support for his daughter (great saxplayer).
So what to do, tell him off ...
